Pisac draws in crowds from miles around for its famous market that sees villagers and town-dwellers from all around coming to sell their wares in the cobbled market square. Artisans selling local textiles and arts also congregate here and it is a popular souvenir shopping location for many visitors. The town itself is great to wander round and explore, and each Sunday the Colonial church holds mass in Quechua, the local tongue. Don’t miss the excellent empanadas baked in the bakery a short distance from the main square. Most visitors to Pisac are day-trippers who spend an hour or so in the market before continuing on their tour of the Sacred Valley and miss out on one of Pisac’s gems, which are the impressive ruins that stand above the town. The site is spectacular for the views alone, but the archaeological site also contains an important ceremonial centre, temples, terraces and a collection of Inca tombs.
