Makapu'u Lighthouse at the eastern end of the island. O'ahu. Continuing westward path to get to Lahaina from the north. The road also runs along curved paths and cliffs by the sea but nothing comparable to Hana. Hawaiian Lahaina was the capital until 1845. Its importance was due largely to the rise of the international whaling industry. Her beautiful historic district has been named a National Historic Landmark because of the large number of restored buildings belonging to the nineteenth century.
