Lake Yamdrok seen passing Kamba La. The lake is located about 90 km west of the Tibetan town (about 60,000 inhabitants in 2003) and about 100 km northeast of the capital. The lake of unknown depth, is fan-shaped, opening just to the south and north. The lake shore is mountainous, very embattled, with numerous bays and inlets. Yamdrok The lake freezes in winter. Yamdrok Lake has a power plant was completed and put into operation in 1996 near the small town of Pai-Ti at the western end of the lake. This plant is the largest in Tibet.
