Brujas por la noche con la torre del campanario en el fondo, el paisaje más típico de Brujas. Por la noche es recomendable dar una paseo para observar las vistas sobre Brujas en el canal Dijver y la torre del campanario ilumninados. BRUSELAS. El Atomium, con sus 102 metros de altura y 2400 toneladas de peso, representa la estructura de un átomo de hierro aumentado 165 millones de veces. Sus esferas fueron construidas por André Waterkeyn en acero y aluminio para la Exposición Internacional de 1958, y está formada por nueve esferas de 18 metros de diámetro cada una, comunicadas entre sí por escaleras mecánicas. En principio se habló de desmontarla una vez concluida la exposición, pero rápidamente se convirtió en una atracción turística que todavía perdura en la actualidad, y que se ha convertido incluso en un icono de la ciudad. En marzo del 2004 se llevó a cabo un proceso de rehabilitación que duró hasta febrero del 2006, incluyendo un ascensor que sube hasta la cima a una velocidad de 5 m/s. Cuenta con un espacio interior para albergar exposiciones y un restaurante.

BELGIUM: The carnival of Binche. Belgium, carnaval of Binche. UNESCO World Heritage Parade Festival. Belgium, Walloon Municipality, province of Hainaut, village of Binche. The carnival of Binche is an event that takes place each year in the Belgian town of Binche during the Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday preceding Ash Wednesday. The carnival is the best known of several that take place in Belgium at the same time and has been proclaimed as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity listed by UNESCO. Its history dates back to approximately the 14th century. Events related to the carnival begin up to seven weeks prior to the primary celebrations. Street performances and public displays traditionally occur on the Sundays approaching Ash Wednesday, consisting of prescribed musical acts, dancing, and marching. Large numbers of Binche's inhabitants spend the Sunday directly prior to Ash Wednesday in costume. The centrepiece of the carnival's proceedings are clown-like performers known as Gilles. Appearing, for the most part, on Shrove Tuesday, the Gilles are characterised by their vibrant dress, wax masks and wooden footwear. They number up to 1,000 at any given time, range in age from 3 to 60 years old, and are customarily male. The honour of being a Gille at the carnival is something that is aspired to by local men
